While both The Perrin TechniqueTM and general osteopathy are manual therapy approaches, they differ significantly in their focus and application
General osteopathy addresses a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints including back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, and postural problems. It uses various hands-on techniques to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, and restore balanced function to the body's structure.
The Perrin Technique, in contrast, is a specially designed protocol developed for chronic fatigue syndrome and related conditions. It focuses on identifying and treating the unique physical signs associated with CFS/ME, including tender points, varicose lymphatic vessels, and cranial restrictions. The technique employs specific lymphatic drainage sequences, soft tissue, and cranial work designed to restore proper cerebrospinal and lymphatic fluid drainage from the central nervous system.
Where general osteopathy aims to treat structural and mechanical problems for pain relief and improved movement, The Perrin Technique addresses the underlying physiological dysfunction believed to cause CFS/ME. The treatment follows a specific examination and treatment protocol, with practitioners trained and certified in Dr Perrin's methodology. Both approaches complement each other well, and some individuals may benefit from general osteopathic care for musculoskeletal issues alongside Perrin Technique treatment for their chronic fatigue.
