Lymphoedema Management
Lymphoedema can occur when the lymphatic system has been damaged, altered or has not developed normally, resulting in a build-up of fluid within the tissues. Secondary lymphoedema may occur following cancer treatment, lymph node removal, radiation therapy, surgery or trauma.
As a qualified Lymphoedema Therapist, Naomi provides individualised lymphoedema management and supportive care for people with diagnosed lymphoedema or those considered at risk of developing lymphoedema. Treatment may include MLD, education, and self-management strategies, with care tailored to the individual and provided within her professional scope of practice.
If a patient presents with swelling or other symptoms requiring further investigation and a diagnosis has not been established, they will be referred back to their GP, specialist or appropriate healthcare professional.
Lipoedema Support
Lipoedema is a chronic condition that most commonly affects the legs and sometimes the arms. It may be associated with pain, tenderness, easy bruising, heaviness and changes in the distribution of fatty tissue.
For people who have been diagnosed with lipoedema, supportive treatment is individually tailored according to their symptoms and needs.
Where appropriate, care may include MLD, gentle hands-on therapy, education, and self-management strategies, particularly where swelling or secondary lymphatic involvement is present.
The aim is to support comfort, movement and ongoing management rather than diagnose the condition. If lipoedema is suspected but has not been medically diagnosed, the patient should discuss this with their GP or appropriate specialist for further assessment.
