Book with Dean

Dean graduated from RMIT University in 1998 with a double degree in Applied Science (specialising in Clinical Science) and Osteopathic Science. He commenced practising at Blackburn Osteopathy soon after qualifying and he has been a Partner in that Practice since 2001. In October 2007, Dean and his wife, Angela, established Canterbury Health Hub.

Dean is passionate about Osteopathy. Over his 20 years in Practice, he has watched the profession grow enormously and is proud of the reputation and global recognition that it has today. He thoroughly enjoys treating a broad cross-section of the community, using a wide range of osteopathic techniques, including Cranial Osteopathy and draws immense satisfaction from successful outcomes for his patients.

Dean held the position of Vice-President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Osteopathic Association for a three year period. He continues to support the teaching of osteopathic students by providing them with an opportunity to experience clinical practice through observation and tutorial sessions held at the clinic.

Dean shows compassion towards his patients and his excellent communication skills allow him to educate patients about their conditions. Having suffered from an acute lower back discal injury many years ago that required surgery, Dean understands first-hand what it is like to suffer from acute pain, undergo spinal surgery and complete rehabilitation programs. As a result, he draws from his own personal experiences in assisting in the treatment, management and care of his patients, aiming to deliver the best possible outcomes. Acute musculoskeletal conditions, disc related lower back pain and headaches are among some of the many conditions that particularly interest him.

He met his wife, Angela whilst at University and they graduated together as Osteopaths. They have four children – a fourteen year old daughter, Ella, a twelve year old son Joshua, a ten year old son Thomas and an eight year old son, William.

In his spare time, Dean particularly enjoys playing the guitar and drums, having played many gigs with his band over the years. He loves listening to loud music of any type and enjoys following the football, but only if the Saints are playing! He always looks forward to spending quality time with his family and friends.

Book with Angela

Angela graduated from Osteopathy at R.M.I.T. in 1998 and immediately joined the team at North Carlton Osteopathy where she worked full time until the birth of her first child, Ella, in 2006. During this time, she spent three months in mid 2000 working in one of Sydney’s North Shore osteopathic practices which was professionally beneficial and personally lots of fun.

Angela returned to part time work at North Carlton Osteopathy in September 2006 and continued working until the birth of her second child, Joshua in 2008. At this point she left North Carlton Osteopathy and together with Dean Holzer she co founded Osteopathy on Canterbury. 10 years later, 2 more children , a beautiful new clinic and Canterbury Health Hub was born. Angela is excited by the team that surrounds her, both at the front desk and in the treatment rooms. She looks forward to seeing how the next chapter of the Clinic evolves.

From an osteopathic perspective, Angela enjoys the personal aspects of her job, meeting people from all walks of life, helping them to understand their musculoskeletal conditions and educating them in ways to help themselves along their journey to improved health and wellbeing. Angela adopts a wide range of osteopathic techniques including biodynamics and enjoys treating people of all ages including babies and children. Angela has completed her Clinical Pilates training and is thrilled to have this adjunct to Osteopathy. She looks forward to introducing patients to Pilates in the clinic.

Angela is now the mother of four growing children, ranging from 14 to 7. Although they keep her super busy, she finds her balance with her regular gym training and regular catch ups with her beautiful friends and family. She finds her chosen path as an Osteopath to be continually rewarding and fulfilling.

Book with Emily

Emily graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Clinical Science (Osteopathy) and a Masters of Health Science (Osteopathy), after originally studying Exercise Science and Nutrition majors at Deakin University.

Emily grew up in country South West Victoria, where there wasn’t much else to do but play sport. Emily enjoyed playing all sport as a child and teenager, with her specialty being netball. With both her parents being nurses and spending much of her childhood in and around the local hospital, Emily knew her career would end up in the health profession.

Emily is also a swimming coach and has enjoyed being able to help kids of all ages learn to swim and develop them into state level swimmers for the past 10+ years. She can also easily develop swimming-based rehabilitation programs for her patients.

Emily is an extremely passionate and enthusiastic Osteopath and enjoys treating patients of all ages. She loves the holistic approach it has, incorporating education, dry needling and rehabilitation into her treatments and management of patients. As a headache sufferer herself for many years, Emily particularly enjoys treating this condition, as she is able to draw on her experiences (having trialled what has and has not been successful) and use this to her advantage in achieving positive patient outcomes.

Emily is eager to continue her Professional Development and has completed extra courses in both Dry Needling and Balanced Ligamentous Tension (gentle, indirect osteopathic series of techniques that can be really useful for acute conditions and/or those patients that prefer a gentle approach). More recently, she has completed her training in mat Pilates.

Family is a big part of Emily’s life, coming from a large and very close extended family. She enjoys catching up with her family whenever she can, especially her cheeky niece and nephew. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, travelling, shopping and baking for others – so she doesn’t eat all the sweets herself!

Nathan Switkowski graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy) and a Bachelor of Health Science.

Nathan grew up in Melbourne’s North East suburbs playing high-level basketball and football. He discovered Osteopathy as an adolescent after experiencing lower back pain for many months, unable to live life the way he wanted to. He saw an Osteopath for treatment, which enabled him to return to all his sporting activities pain-free! This experience inspired him to study Osteopathy, so that he too could help others in pain and allow them to reach their full potential.

Nathan is a dedicated practitioner who prides himself on clear and concise treatment plans. He is passionate about working with his patients to help them reach their goals, and improve their overall health and wellbeing. He enjoys helping his patients to understand their musculoskeletal conditions, whilst also educating them on ways to help themselves along their journey to recovery. He prescribes rehabilitation strengthening and stretching exercises to his patients in combination with manual therapy techniques to achieve effective results.

Nathan’s interest in the sporting field led him to work at the Western Bulldogs Football Club as a sports trainer for 3 years. This invaluable experience working alongside elite athletes sparked a special interest in treating acute musculoskeletal injuries. While at the club, he was fortunate to be involved in the 2016 AFL and VFL premierships.

Nathan enjoys continuing his professional training and development. Since graduating, he has completed further training in dry needling and mat pilates.

In his spare time, Nathan enjoys staying active at the local gym and playing competitive basketball. He also enjoys socialising with mates, trying out new cafes for a good cup of coffee and cheering on his beloved Doggies on the weekend.

Book with Jess

Jess graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Health Science and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Osteopathy).

Jess’ interest in Osteopathy began in high school when she started seeing an Osteopath herself. She developed a fascination with anatomy and continues to be amazed by the things our bodies can do. And she was not the only one! For Jess, Osteopathy is a family affair as she is the third Osteopath in her family, with a fourth soon to graduate.

One of Jess’ passions in life is gymnastics, having spent over 17 years as both a gymnast and a coach at her local gymnastics club. This passion also led to her spending a number of years training in circus arts, and teaching gymnastics skills in Crossfit settings. These experiences have given Jess a strong interest in sports medicine, as it was her own sporting injuries that led her to discovering the value of Osteopathy. She believes Osteopathy can not only help with injuries, but also help enhance your training and help prevent future injuries from occurring.

Jess treats a wide range of patients, from school aged children and up and has a particular interest in treating both the lower body, from low back and pelvic pain to foot and ankle injuries, as well as neck and upper back pain. She uses a wide range of osteopathic techniques, such as soft tissue massage, MET, articulation, manipulation as well as indirect techniques such as counter-strain. Jess is an enthusiastic practitioner who prides herself on communication and compassion. She has a passion for helping educate her patients on their body and their health, so that they can achieve optimal results and increase their overall wellbeing.

Always looking to expand her skill set and knowledge base, Jess has also completed qualifications in dry needling and myofascial cupping, which she now utilises in her osteopathic treatments. To help further her knowledge of exercise prescription and rehabilitation, she has also completed training in Clinical Pilates, which she now loves teaching this alongside her Osteopathy.

In her free time, Jess enjoys spending time with her family and dog, exploring new places, and is currently learning to speak Spanish.

She has two gorgeous boys who continue to keep her busy, educate her and provide her with a huge amount of enjoyment.

On returning to the workforce, Anna wanted to continue with her interest in health and wellbeing and decided to shift her focus from surgery and the technical ethos of Intensive Care to a more holistic patient centred approach. After receiving treatment herself, she was inspired to learn more about Myotherapy, feeling it encompassed many of her beliefs, with the aim of helping everyone attain their potential.

Since graduating, Anna has worked in multidisciplinary clinics throughout Melbourne, treating alongside various allied health practitioners. This has given her the opportunity to acquire invaluable knowledge and further develop and utilise the latest techniques and approaches within her own treatments.

Anna is a passionate and caring therapist, dedicated to providing the highest level of quality care to all her patients. Strong listening skills and communication is Anna’s forte. She aims to understand each patient, to discover the cause of their problem, rather than only treating symptoms. She strives to help empower her patients to take control of their pain and sets achievable goals for their recovery, by providing education about their condition, restoring function and reducing the fear of movement.

Anna uses a wide range of techniques in her treatments, including deep tissue, sports and remedial massage with facilitated stretching, dry needling, soft tissue and joint mobilisation, cupping, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and muscle energy techniques. She also provides advice on corrective exercises and stretches.

In her spare time, Anna enjoys going for a run, take part in a Pilates or a Pump fitness class. She also loves spending time with family, going to the movies or catching up with friends over a coffee in one of the many great cafes around Melbourne.

However, arguably his greatest achievement so far would be the experience of working with several Gold Medal winners at the Commonwealth Games. From netball, to triathletes, to wheelchair endurance races, Brendon considers himself a part of medal success! Currently, Brendon is also a Myotherapist at the Richmond Football Club and was heavily involved in the AFL and VFL premierships in 2019.
