Us Melbournian’s love a long weekend, and aren’t we spoilt for choice of what we can do in and around Melbourne to give ourselves a much-needed mini break this long weekend. We’ve put together a few healthy activities for your Queen’s Birthday long weekend in case you’re in need of some inspiration & we’ll let you know what some of our staff have planned!
1. MIND BODY SPIRIT FESTIVAL
In the spirit of health and wellbeing, the Mind Body Spirit Festival is on from 8-11 June. With a plethora of health, wellbeing and natural therapy exhibitors at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre and are open 10am-7pm.
2. HEALSVILLE SANCTUARY WINE & WILDLIFE
Healsville Sanctuary is hosting Wine & Wildlife, in conjunction with the Yarra Valley, where you can sample local wines as you wander the scenic sanctuary admiring the animals. Entry is from 9am and tastings are on daily over the long weekend from 11am-4pm.
3. 1000 STEPS
You might be up for an adventure in the great outdoors. Why not take a drive out to the 1000 steps, a great challenging walk not too far from Melbourne. Get your heart rate pumping and your sweat on as you strengthen those legs. It can get busy there, so we recommend arriving early.

4. WALKING AND RUNNING TRACKS AROUND MELBOURNE
Other great walking/running tracks around Melbourne may also take your fancy and we are always encouraging our patients to get outside and move. Here are some of our fav’s:
- The Tan – 3.8km track nearby the CBD
- Albert Park Lake – 4.8km track in scenic Albert Park
- Gardiner’s Creek Trail – 20km of off-road track through the Eastern suburbs
- Maribyrnong River Track – 8.17km in Maribyrnong
- Yarra Trail – 15km from Richmond to Kew
- Elwood to Sandringham – 15km return journey along the beach path
5. HEAD TO THE HIGH COUNTRY
The snow season officially opens this weekend, so a drive to one of Victoria’s snow mountains may be on the cards for you and your family & friends. Mt. Buller is the closest to Melbourne and is a crowd favourite, although can get busy because of its proximity to Melbourne. Mt Hotham and Falls Creek are also great mountain resorts but are a little further afield.
6. GET YOUR SPORTING FIX
If you’re keen to stay in Melbourne and are an avid sports fan:
- NRL Melbourne Storm vs. Brisbane Broncos – Sunday 10th 10pm @ AAMI park
- AFL Brisbane Lions vs. Essendon Bombers – kids go free Sunday 10th at MCG 1.10pm
- Big Freeze 4 at The G for FightMND – AFL Collingwood Magpies vs. Melbourne Demons – Monday 11th20pm
WHAT OUR TEAM HAVE GOT PLANNED
Here’s what some of our staff will be doing this long weekend.
- Osteopath Emily Gill will be venturing back to her hometown of Casterton to spend some time with her family and attend the annual Kelpie Festival. Held every June long weekend it brings a plethora of people and their beloved Kelpies to the town with a vast array of street festival stalls and entertaining kelpie events and trials. She has Melbourne friends who have entered their dog in the Kelpie Triathlon – keep your ears peeled to see if they bring home the trophy!
- CHH founders Dean Holzer & Angela Rennie are looking forward to spending some quality time with their four children and will hopefully get away for a short break.
- Osteopath Louise Norman will be away with friends enjoying wine & cheese in the Yarra Valley. She’s very much looking forward to some R&R after a busy few months.
- Remedial masseuse Julia Doddy is heading to Bright for the weekend with family for a good mix of bike riding, hiking and sampling local wines at the many wineries in the region.
